The site of Khirbat al-Dusaq is located about 5 km from Shawbak.

Since 2015, it has been the focus of an archaeological and historical study. It consists of three buildings, including a luxurious medieval hammam. The discovery of a foundation inscription has shed light on the purpose of the site. Its construction was commissioned by an Ayyubid sultan of Damascus in the 13th century, with the aim of equipping the Hajj route and providing a comfortable place of rest. The results of this project have helped broaden our understanding of the changes that took place in pilgrims’ itineraries during the Middle Ages across the territory of present-day Jordan.
